A few times, best to do it when it's calm and warm

I want to see the Venn diagram of WHO posters and cross-channel swimmers!
Fewer than 2,000 individuals have done the whole crossing.
Loads more have done it in groups, you know doing a mile each or whatever, but that's not swimming the channel.

No, but I did work with someone last year whose husband was doing it. He started training before the actual event a whole year before. Not sure what the logistics are on it either - how do you make sure you don't get run over by a Ferry or a Speedboat etc? It might be easier to run the London Marathon or something - at least you can just turn up to that with the admin already taken care of!

Damn right. If you actually commit to swimming all the way across the channel yourself, that is very, very impressive indeed, and puts you in an exceptional group of athletes. That's a majpor endeavour.

You must have turned left at Dover instead of going straight on.

Best thing Walliams has ever done.
But he trained until he looked like a beast, and had a psychologist etc... to accomplish it.
